Stop saying “You win a ____”.

Nobody won when you spouted this uninspired drivel. He wins? She wins the thread? This certain thing is win? Ugh. It comes down to this: you are expressing yourself poorly. This meme is overused and has lost any punch it ever had. By using it, you’re either showing that you haven’t yet grasped that the meme is dull and old, or you’re showing indifference to the effect of your own expression.

Instead, be daring! Be direct! Either make a temporary withdrawal from the neverending battle to be quirky and funny, and simply resign yoruself to saying “this is excellent”, or let your personality shine through a clever phrase of your own invention. “Win” no longer serves the purpose you want it to.

You can only say it if

Only use it when it actually has to do with someone winning—some kind of definite success. It’s entirely valid to win an argument or win the hearts of those in the thread. (What an interesting and unusual flourish to try!) But to use win as an adjective, or to declare that somebody or something has won anything other than in conflict is trite and should be avoided. You’re better than it!
